Course Description
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the concepts of democracy, democratization and the democratic regression, both from philosophical and sociological, as well as political, legal and economic scientific traditions. Through this course, students will learn the key differences between types of democracy, how to critically valorize different aspects of the democratization process, as well as how to interpret the limits of democracy in modern time society. Using concrete examples, they will be able to understand how democracy works, i.e. how actors and institutions within the political and legal system influence the establishment, strengthening and abolition of democracy. Also, students will learn how to draw conclusions about processes and phenomena on a global scale that influence the phenomenon of democratic regression and how to slow down or prevent this regression.
