The elective course Contemporary approaches in the integration of science and practice of social work has an aim to introduce students to science-based models of social work practice and to encourage students to apply contemporary methodology for practice-based research The course is opened to students that have at least basic knowledge in field of reserach methodology. The course is opened for social work students, but also those outside social work that are intersted in applied and engaged reserach or want to be familiarized with logics of evidence- based practice. Expected learning outcomes at the level of the course are: 1. Differentiate professional decision-making based on scientific in relation to non-scientific knowledge; 2. Understand the scientific evidence that informs practice and that comes from multiple sources; 3. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches in research of social work practice; 4. Justify the choice of a particular approach for practice-based research; 5. Predict ethical and cultural specifics and challenges of conducting engaged research in social work; 6. Understand the process of translating research results into practice; 7. Analyze innovations in social work practice from the perspective of the interconnectedness of science and practice Classes will be held in a form of weekly interactive lectures (2 hours) or individualised consultative class for groups with less than five students. The final exam will be in a form of written exam where students will apply their knowledge on given examples.
