We create expectations
The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the Department of European Public Law is a focal point of competence and knowledge in EU legal studies at the University of Zagreb. Its goal is to promote the rule of law and other foundational EU values through two of its central and complimentary dimensions: academic activities and policy outreach.
In its ACADEMIC dimension, the Centre will support excellence in teaching and research of EU subjects at the host institution. It will offer a comprehensive set of courses in EU law and policy at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, reinforcing the commitment to EU values of newer generations of students and professionals. The Centre’s research activities will complement its teaching and policy outputs by generating new knowledge that results in cutting-edge research findings and staff publications. Special emphasis will be placed on developing teaching skills and research of junior academics. The Centre will also be a hub of academic cooperation and exchange, organizing a range of activities and events, such as the publication of the ‘Croatian Yearbook of European Law and Policy’ and the annual Jean Monnet seminars and conferences.
The second dimension of the Centre will provide its academic resources an extensive and growing POLICY outreach. The Centre will promote policy debate and exchanges with the civil society, policymakers and the media at the local, regional, national and supranational levels in order to reinforce the institutional and civic respect for the rule of law and other EU values, strengthen European identity and active citizenship. The Centre will organize a number of cooperation activities and workshops aimed at the judiciary, civil servants, members of civil society, high school teachers and students, and the media. It will also publish policy briefs on the most important contemporary aspects of EU law. In doing so, the Centre will foster dialogue between the academic world and society and generate knowledge supporting EU policymaking.
