Agnes Milovan-Solter is a lecturer in English for legal purposes at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. She graduated in English and German philology and literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb and went on to complete her postgraduate studies in intercultural communication and European studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda, Germany. She earned her master’s degree by defending her master’s thesis on the topic Evaluation of the study module Corporate Ethics and Corporate Governance at the Volkswagen Corporate University Volkswagen in 2005.
She subsequently undertook doctoral studies in linguistics at the University of Zadar, where she defended her doctoral thesis, An analysis of collocations in the English language of contract law, in June 2025.
Concurrently with her academic career, she was appointed a court interpreter for English, German and Italian in 2010 by decision of the President of the Zagreb County Court, and has since been regularly reappointed.
Her professional experience further encompasses her work at the Croatian Bar Association, where she served as a translator, executive editor of the official magazine Odvjetnik, and expert associate for education, thereby acquiring substantial experience in legal language, editorial practice and professional training. In addition to these roles, she has taught English for legal purposes and German for legal purposes at the Centre for Languages and Law, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, as well as business English at the Parole School of Foreign Languages. Her teaching activities have included courses delivered at the Croatian Parliament, the State Directorate for Water, and the pharmaceutical company Pliva, as well as a teaching appointment at the F+U Academy Heidelberg in Zagreb.
Furthermore, she contributed as a translator to the two-year pre-accession CARDS 2004 twinning project Strengthening the taxation system in the field of VAT for the preparation of the VIES IT interconnectivity system at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Croatia.
She has continuously advanced her expertise in linguistics, legal translation and the teaching of languages for specific purposes through sustained participation in conferences, workshops, seminars and study visits.
