University of Zagreb Faculty of Law announces a

Call for application of students

for the University doctoral study of Legal Sciences

 

The following candidates shall be eligible for enrolment in the six-semester study programme:

  1.  A candidate who has completed university integrated undergraduate and graduate study of law and acquired the title of master of law (mag. iur.) or university master of law (univ. mag. iur.) or who has completed 4-year graduate study of law and acquired bachelor’s degree in law (dipl. iur.), or an equivalent of these studies abroad, whereby a candidate has to prove that such equivalent studies provide access to the legal profession of a judge or lawyer in the country where the study programme has been completed
  2. A candidate who has completed the study programme with a minimum grade point average of 3.5, i.e., a candidate who was in the top 20% of his or her generation, or a corresponding foreign equivalent. This requirement can be replaced if the candidate did not have an average grade point of at least 3.5 during the completed study, but has completed the university specialist study programme in law and has acquired at least 90 ECTS,  thereby achieving a minimum grade point average of 4.5, or a corresponding foreign equivalent
  3.  A candidate with a level of proficiency in English and in another world language that enables the use of foreign literature, or possesses writing skills in English if that is the language of the doctoral thesis.

However,

–    if a candidate does not meet the general requirement referred to in Point 1, he or she must have completed a university graduate study programme and a university specialist study programme in the field of law
–    if a candidate does not meet the general requirement referred to in Point 2, it may be replaced by three independent scientific papers in the field of law, in the A1 category according to the classification regulations on scientific papers for the purposes of election to scientific-teaching positions.

 

The doctoral study programme begins in the winter semester of the academic year 2026/2027.

Tuition fees amount to EUR 1,592.67 per semester, i.e. EUR 9,556.02 in total, in accordance with the Decision on tuition and other fees.

Application deadline is May 25, 2026

Applications should be submitted exclusively via the LimeSurvey form (There is no need to come to the Faculty premises.).

The LimeSurvey form (https://limesurvey.srce.hr/718753?lang=en) will be available from January 13 to May 25, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (the application cannot be accessed outside the mentioned period). The form requires uploading all documents required in this call for application.

When applying, please enclose the following obligatory documents:

  • curriculum vitae
  • a diploma attesting the completion of a study programme, a transcript showing the successfully passed exams and corresponding grades and an expressed grade point average, if any
  • language proficiency certificates, if any
  • scientific papers, if any, that can be further verified and evaluated
  • elaborated proposal of the doctoral topic which contains the basic theses and research goal, a preliminary work plan and bibliography (in the form available on the website of the study programme)
  • proposal of the mentor with the written consent of the proposed mentor agreeing to guide the doctoral student in relation to the proposed topic
  • two recommendation letters by university teachers (one may be written by the proposed mentor) or alternatively, one recommendation letter by a university teacher (this may also be the proposed mentor) and another recommendation letter by a person who has achieved outstanding results in the legal profession.

All applicants shall be notified of the application results within 45 days after the conclusion of the call for application. The decision on the enrolment of candidates in doctoral studies shall be made by the Faculty Council.
