Prof. Dr. Sc. Jasnica Garašić is the Full professor with tenure at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb, where she teaches Civil Procedure Law, Insolvency Law, Enforcement Law, and Arbitration Law.
She graduated (1987) and got her master's degree (1992) at the Faculty of Law of the University in Zagreb with excellent grades.
She was granted a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and spent two and half years at the "Max-Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law" in Hamburg preparing her doctoral thesis. She received a Ph.D. with summa cum laude from the University of Hamburg (2004), where she wrote a thesis on international insolvency law: "Recognition of Foreign Insolvency Proceedings: a Comparison of Croatian Law, German Law and Swiss Law as well as European Regulation on Insolvency Proceedings, Convention of Istanbul and UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency "- Part 1-pp. 499; Part 2-pp. 633; Peter Lang Verlag, Frankfurt am Main, 2005.
As a Fulbright visiting scholar, she spent one-year researching American bankruptcy law in the School of Law of the University of Texas at Austin (2007/2008).
She has been a delegate of the Republic of Croatia to UNCITRAL's Working Group V for Insolvency Law since 2004.
She was a member of the Committee of Croatian Ministry of Justice that drafted the Croatian Bankruptcy Acts of 1996 and 2015. Further, she was a member of the Committee of the same Ministry that drafted the Croatian Consumer Bankruptcy Act of 2015. She also participated in the preparation of the Croatian Act on Implementation of the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction and in the preparation of the Croatian Act on Protection of Persons with Mental Disorders.
Professor Garašić is a member of the Examination Commission for Taking the Professional Exam for Bankruptcy Trustees at the Croatian Ministry of Justice and Public Administration.
She is the President of the Croatian Committee for Protection of Persons with Mental Disorders founded at the Croatian Ministry of Justice and Public Administration.
She was the Secretary-General of the Permanent Arbitration Court at the Croatian Chamber of Economy from 2005 to 2009. She is active as an arbitrator and is on the List of Arbitrators in Proceedings with and without an International Element at the Permanent Arbitration Court at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce. She is also on the List of the conciliators of the Conciliation Centre at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
She often participates as a lecturer in educational workshops for domestic and foreign judges regarding civil procedure and insolvency law in cooperation with the Croatian Judicial Academy and European Judicial Training Network (EJTN).
She has been participating in the different international projects with regard to civil procedure and insolvency law and been an invited speaker at many international conferences dealing with civil procedure law, bankruptcy/insolvency law, international insolvency law, and European civil procedure law. She was a speaker at the Fourth UNCITRAL International Insolvency Law Colloquium (16-18 December 2013, Vienna) and UNCITRAL Virtual Colloquium on Applicable Law in Insolvency Proceedings (11 December 2020).
She has given invited lectures at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Law of the Karl-Franzens University in Graz, the Fordham University School of Law (New York), the Faculty of Law, Economics and Business at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg as well as at different Croatian universities.
She has published widely in the field of insolvency law and civil procedure in Croatian, German, and English languages.
She is a member of INSOL Europe, Conference on European Restructuring and Insolvency Law (CERIL), International Exchange of Experience on Insolvency Law (IEEI), and Croatian DAAD Club.
