Ivan Šimović was born in 1984 in Zagreb, where he completed both primary and secondary education (Sports Grammar School). He enrolled in the Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb in 2002. In the academic year 2003/2004, he received the Dean’s Award and became a scholarship holder of the “Zlatko Crnić” Foundation for his outstanding academic achievements, and graduated cum laude in 2007.

After completing his studies, in 2007, Šimović began working at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, as a junior research assistant on the scientific research project “European Human Rights System and Croatian Family Law” (supervised by Prof. Dubravka Hrabar). That same year, he enrolled in the Postgraduate Doctoral Study Programme in Civil Law and Family Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. In 2014, he defended his doctoral dissertation titled “The Child’s Right to Housing” (supervised by Prof. Aleksandra Korać Graovac) and obtained the position of senior research assistant. At the end of 2015, he was appointed to the position of Assistant Professor.
