Assistant Professor Nika Sušac was born on September 3, 1984 in Zagreb, Republic of Croatia. She graduated from the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2009, and in 2010 she enrolled in the doctoral study of psychology at the same institution.

From November 2009 to June 2010, and from March 2012 until February 2013 employed as an assistant at the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb as a replacement for an employee on maternity leave. From June 2010 until March 2012 employed as an assistant at the FP7 project BECAN Balkan Epidemiological Study of Child Abuse and Neglect”, also at the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. From 2013 she was a member of the research team from Croatia in an international project Child-friendly justice: Inclusion of children in civil and criminal proceedings (European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the Croatian project.

Since April 2013 she has been employed as an assistant at the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. Apart from the FP7 BEDAC project, she participated in several research projects. In 2013 she was included as a member of the research team from Croatia in an international project “Involvement of children in civil and criminal proceedings” funded by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights – FRA, and conducted in Croatia by the Croatian Legal Center, and in the Croatian project Strengthening capacities of social welfare system for the implementation of measures to protect of rights and welfare of children in care of the social welfare centers, conducted by the Department of Social Work and the Society for Psychological Assistance for UNICEF and the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth. She also participated in the following projects: “Multiple victimization in childhood, exposure of a family to stress and risks for psychosocial adjustment of adolescents” (2013-14), “Risk factors for the development of internalizing and externalizing problems of the youth from the perspective of adolescents (2014), funded by the University of Zagreb, and „Children, the youth, families and social development of Croatia“ (2007–2012), funded by the Ministry of Science, education and sport. From 2009 to 2011 she took part in the preparation and evaluation of the program “Prevention of violence in youthful relationships” by the Society for Psychological Assistance from Zagreb.

From 2008 works as an external collaborator in Modus, a center for children, the youth and families of the Society for Psychological Assistance, where she leads groups within programs such as “How to make studying less painful”, “Taboo-preventive-educational program in the area of sexuality for adolescents”, “Psychosocial treatment of juvenile offenders” and other programs, and is involved in their evaluation.

Her professional interests include the psychology of adolescence, internalising and externalising problems of children and the youth, violence in intimate relationships, peer violence, and domestic violence.

She co-authored 6 scientific papers and a manual for the implementation of preventive programs, and actively participated in numerous domestic and international conferences.
