The founders of the Higher School for Social Workers—Kamilo Bresler, Dr. Eugen Pusić, Valerija Singer, Tatjana Marinić, Irena Bijellić, and Marijan Cvetković—established a two-year program in 1952 based on knowledge gained at universities in Europe and America. Their goal was to ensure the highest quality of the educational program for social workers, collaborating with experienced professionals in the field. Today, students of social work complete a four-year undergraduate university program in social work, a graduate university program in social work, and a graduate university program in social policy. Additionally, after completing education at these levels, further studies are available through postgraduate specialist programs such as Supervision in Psychosocial Work, Family Mediation, Social Policy, Psychosocial Approach in Social Work, and the doctoral program in Social Work and Social Policy.
In addition to its educational mission, the SCSR is dedicated to the continuous development of scientific activities, which include a wide range of international scientific-research projects in the fields of social work and social policy. Regarding publications, in addition to numerous authored books, the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, publishes two scientific journals led and managed by the faculty members of the Social Work Study Centrr: Revija za socijalnu politiku (Journal of Social Policy) and Ljetopis socijalnog rada (Yearbook of Social Work), which are the only journals addressing social issues related to social work, social policy, and other related disciplines. Both journals, which have been published since 1994, are included in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases, reflecting their significance in the scientific field, citation levels, and continuity of publication.
The Social Work Study Centre collaborates with various professional organizations through the implementation of projects, educational programs, and participation in working groups at the national and local levels. This year, the SCSR established an Alumni Community, which will undoubtedly contribute to stronger connections between field professionals and the SCSR, as well as further development of the profession.
