On Monday, November 25, 2024 the new digital platform Mentoring of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb was presented. The event was attended by numerous members of the Alumni community and current students of all study programmes, as well as mentors and candidates who shared experiences about mentoring as a successful path to a better career choice and professional growth. Mentoring provides students with access to valuable knowledge and advice on shaping career goals and making informed decisions about professional development.
The programme started by the welcoming speech delivered by the Dean, Prof. Ivan Koprić, who emphasised the importance of supporting students through mentoring. He pointed out that mentoring not only helps students to understand the practice, but also provides an opportunity to develop a professional network, which is crucial for a successful entry to the labour market. Ivana Karaman Jurić who takes care of the Alumni community greeted the participants and thanked for the great responsiveness and interest of the members of the Faculty’s Alumni community and students for participation in this valuable project. She also invited all attendees to actively engage in mentoring activities, emphasizing that their support is crucial for future generations of students and for the further development of the Alumni community, which encourages co-operation between the labour market and the academic community.
Project initiators at the Faculty Assoc. Prof. Ružica Šimić Banović, Head od the Department for Economic Sciences and president of the Faculty’s Committee for Career Development, dr. sc. Ema Menđušić Škugor, attorney at law and partner at the law firm Divjak, Topić, Bahtijarević & Krka., Natalija Labavić from the law firm Natalija Labavić and Iva Mišković, partner in the law firm Mišković & Mišković held a presentation about the development of the project Mentoring in the legal profession – yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Particularly interesting was the presentation “Why Mentoring?” by Ante Mandić, a doyen of the Croatian IT scene, co-founder of the Senior Entrepreneurs Club SENTOR – Mentoring Support for Entrepreneurs, founder of IN2 and owner of INsig2. His experience shows how mentoring can accelerate professional development, enabling young people to overcome challenges at the beginning of their careers more easily and achieve their ambitions.
Panel discussion about the experiences of mentors and candidates, in which the mentoring couple from the Pilot Mentoring Project participated – Marko Dolenec, legal advisor at Tawal and Lucija Zelenković, legal trainee at the Law Firm Lovrić, Novokmet and Partners – showed how important mentoring is for connecting with the labour market and career development.
The new digital platform at the web page of the Faculty of Law that will facilitate the connection of the students at all study programmes with experienced mentors was presented.
Some new contacts were made and some future mentoring arranged in the informal part.
We hereby invite all students to join the programme, explore the mentors’ profiles and find their mentor who will guide them on their path to professional success.
