On 17 November 2023, the Social Work Study Centre of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb marked the 71st annivesary of continued work as one of the oldest study programmes for social workers in the region and beyond. This anniversary is especially important because it is the first time that the Day of the Social Work Study Centre is marked on the exact date of its inception – 17 November (1952).

The celebration brought together many reputable guests, high officials and representatives of relevant institutions, such as Tatjana Katkić Stanić, envoy of the minister of labour, pension system, family and social policy Marin Piletić and director of the Social Work Institute at the Ministry, Tena Šimonović Einwalter, the Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia, Marinka Bakula Anđelić, assistant to the head of the City Office for Social Security, Health Care, War Veterans and Persons with Disability, Prof. Jurica Pavičić, vice-rector for international and interinstitutional co-operation, Štefica Karačić, president of the Croatian Association of Social Workers, and Domagoj Kronstein, member of the Management Board of the Croatian Chamber of Social Workers.

The event was hosted by the dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Ivan Koprić and the head of the Social Work Study Centre, Prof. Gordana Berc.

The celebration was followed by two very interesting presentations on the topic of reforms of social work study programmes by Assoc. Prof. Ljiljana Rihter from the Faculty of Social Work in Ljubljana, and Assoc. Prof. Marcus Knutagård from the Lund University School of Social Work.

The event was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the Social Work Study Centre in terms of its teaching, scientific and social contributions, but also to reflect on future challenges in improving our study programmes.
