As part of the European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC) project, Professor Felipe Isa Gomez from the University of Deusto Law School in Bilbao, Spain, visited the Faculty of Law in Zagreb last Friday. The primary reason for the visit was to agree on the implementation of a joint BIP programme, which the University of Deusto will coordinate in January 2024 under the title “Genocide and Mass Atrocities in International Law”.

During the one-day visit, Professor Gomez met with the vice-deans Professor Mirela Krešić and Professor Elizabeta Ivičević Karas, with Jelena Tadić Cegnar from the International Mobility Office, and with Professor Maja Munivrana, who specializes in the topics to be covered during the programme. The visit was concluded with a working lunch with Professor Goranka Lalić Novak, acting as the deputy project leader for the European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC) at the University of Zagreb, and with Associate Professor Teo Giljević.

The outcome of the visit is an initial collaboration agreement on two additional new BIP programmes: one involving the Faculty of Law as a partner, and another one with the Faculty of Law as the programme coordinator.

The European Commission emphasizes the importance of European universities, and BIP programmes are recognized as a new tool for strengthening such networks. Hence, live visits like the present one, where teachers from the same field of law are given the opportunity for direct networking, produce concrete ideas and results.

We look forward to continuing the excellent collaboration with the University of Deusto Law School within the UNIC project!
