On 26 November 2024, a promotion event for the collected papers volume „The Croatian-Hungarian Settlement: Institutions and Reality“, edited by Dalibor Čepulo and Damir Karbić, was held at the Bogdan Ogrizović Library. The volume features contributions from a scientific conference organized in 2018 to mark the 150th anniversary of one of the fundamental legal and political acts of modern Croatian history—the Croatian-Hungarian Settlement. The conference was organized by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, which are also the publishers of this volume.
The collection includes seventeen papers by authors from Croatia, Austria, Hungary, and Finland, addressing various institutions and individuals within the Settlement framework. The papers explore Croatian-Hungarian relations and processes in the pre-modern period, the transfer of foreign institutions into the Croatian legal system, and the development of the modern Croatian nation and state in a European context.
By challenging traditional but outdated interpretative paradigms and introducing a new methodological approach, the volume broadens discussions on the Settlement and on Croatian autonomy from a historical, thematic, and comparative perspective, filling research gaps and contributing to a deeper understanding of contemporary Croatian society and its place within Europe.
The volume was presented by Prof. Ivan Koprić, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Academician Nella Lonza, on behalf of the publishers. Reviews were provided by Josip Vrbošić, PhD, and Ljiljana Dobrovšak, PhD, while the editors Dalibor Čepulo, PhD, and Damir Karbić, PhD, also took part in the discussion. The event was moderated by Prof. Siniša Zrinščak, editor of the Faculty of Law’s publishing activities.
