The International Creative Authors Conference – MAKK 2025, one of the most important regional gatherings of experts in the field of copyright law, and cultural and creative industries, was held on 20 and 21 November at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. The occasion of the conference was the 80th anniversary of the Croatian Composers’ Society, under the slogan “The Story of Our Music: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”.

The Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb participated as a co-organizer, contributing to a stronger connection between the legal profession and authors, creative artists, musicians and stakeholders in the cultural sector.

The conference was opened by the Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek, highlighting the importance of protecting copyright and related rights, especially in the context of the rapid development of artificial intelligence and global challenges in cultural and creative industries. She also emphasized the importance of recent investments in the cultural sector and measures that strengthen the position of authors and performers.

During the conference, key topics for the position of authors and creatives were discussed, including:

  • contemporary challenges of copyright
  • the impact of artificial intelligence on creative professions
  • creative economy and sustainable development of the industry
  • cultural policies and legislative framework
  • the future of the music and audiovisual sector

The program also included professors from the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, Prof. Romana Matanovac Vučković as a lecturer on the topic of non-distributable amounts in the collective management of rights, and Prof. Igor Gliha as the moderator of the round table on the collective management of acting rights.
