On 4 December 2024, Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Davor Božinović, PhD, delivered a guest lecture entitled Geopolitics and Transatlantic Partnership: Understanding Global Political Processes at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb.

The lecture was part of the Faculty’s series Law, Society, and Democratic Public Governance. Prof. Ivan Koprić, Dean of the Faculty, opened the event with a welcome address, encouraging participants to engage in the dialogue and discussion through their questions.

Božinović’s lecture focused on migration as one of the defining challenges of our time, highlighting the policies and approaches of various countries toward migrants. He also explored topics such as human rights during transitional periods, global and regional uncertainties, the need to adapt the European legal framework, and the role of technological innovations as increasingly powerful tools in modern governance.

The students actively participated by posing numerous questions, prompting discussions on the reasons behind Donald Trump’s election as U.S. president and its implications for the transatlantic partnership between Europe and the United States, as well as NATO. Other topics included the externalization of migration policies and the role of media in educating and informing the public on global politics.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of open dialogue and communication in all aspects of democratic public life and the need for young people to actively engage in global and national political processes.
