The II Career Days of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, held this year from 3 to 8 March 2021, have finished. Due to the epidemiological situation, the entire event took place online via the Microsoft Teams platform. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, student participation was high, confirming the continued need to maintain such initiatives. We are particularly pleased that an increasing number of our Faculty’s alumni and employers recognise the importance of the Career Days, making this year’s programme truly rich and diverse in content, with topics often proposed by the employers themselves.
More than 100 students participated in the event, having the opportunity to attend 12 interactive lectures, while a total of 13 law firms also took part in the so-called Career Speed Dating– short individual job interviews with students. It is important to emphasise that invitations to participate in the Career Days were also sent to young graduates of our Faculty, namely all those who had graduated within the past year.
The first day began with a lecture by Iva Majstorović from the Degordian agency, symbolically titled “Is There Such a Thing as a Dream Job?”, followed by a lecture by Commercial Court judge Ms Maja Praljak, who gave students an inspiring talk about a career in the judiciary.
On the following day, the programme opened with attorney Ema Menđušić Škugor from the law firm DTB & Krka, who delivered two connected workshops for students on the topic “How to Present Yourself to an Employer in the Best Possible Way”, the first focusing on writing a high-quality CV, and the second on preparing for a potential job interview. An interactive lecture titled “What Kind of Candidate Do Serious Law Firms Look For?” was delivered by attorney Iva Mišković from the law firm Mišković & Mišković. The programme was then refreshed by Anamarija Malić from the Degordian agency with a lecture on LinkedIn, introducing students to this most important professional social network. The final lecture of the second day was delivered by attorney and partner Danijela Simeunović from the law firm KP & S, titled “A Trainee Lawyer in a Law Firm Practising Business Law.”
On the third day, students attended a highly practical lecture by attorney Pave Mišković from the law firm Mišković & Mišković, who spoke about his many years of experience working in a bank and highlighted certain career advantages for lawyers in banking. The programme continued with attorney Natalija Perić from the law firm Mamić, Perić, Reberski, Rimac, who presented useful guidance on searching regulatory practice and other publicly available information, encouraging students to master this material in advance to better prepare for their first employment. At the end of the day, attorney Dino Gliha from the joint office of Dr. Marković, Grbavac & Gliha delivered an engaging lecture titled “An Interdisciplinary Approach in a Legal Career.”
The final day began with an address by Mislav Mataija from Brussels, a former lecturer at the Department of European Law, who introduced students to a legal career within EU institutions. The programme concluded with a lecture by Professor Romana Matanovac Vučković from the Department of Civil Law on the protection of one’s own business ideas.
We would like to thank all lecturers and employers for their participation and at the same time invite anyone interested in delivering similar interactive lectures or holding potential internship or job interviews with our students to contact us at ivana.karaman.juric@pravo.hr, so that cooperation may continue throughout the year.
