Associate Professor Marin Bonačić received his current academic rank at the Department of Criminal Procedure of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb in 2021. Prior to this appointment, he worked at the department as a researcher on the project “Croatia and international criminal justice” between 2005 and 2009, then as an assistant from 2009 to 2015, from 2015 to 2016 as a senior assistant, and from 2016 to 2021 as an assistant professor. He obtained his master’s degree in 2011 at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, having defended his master’s thesis “Internationalized criminal courts: basic problems and legal solutions”, followed by his doctoral dissertation in 2015 titled “The legacy of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia”. He passed the bar exam in 2009. He trained abroad and spent the academic year 2010/11 at the University of Vienna within the framework of the ERASMUS program, and at the Free University of Berlin in the academic year 2013/14. In addition, he was a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg and at the Europa-Institute of Saarland University. He has published several scientific and professional articles in the areas of criminal procedure, international criminal law and misdemeanour law in domestic and foreign publications and presented papers at scientific conferences.
