Marijana Javornik Čubrić is a senior lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages. She studied English and Russian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb and obtained a BA degree in 1994. Having completed the postgraduate study programme in literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, in 2006 she was awarded the academic degree of a master of science after defending her master’s thesis Edith Wharton and Her Heroines: Angels of Devastation. In 2012 she defended her doctoral dissertation Teaching English for Legal Purposes in Croatia and was awarded a PhD in linguistics.

From 1997 until 2001 she worked as a lector at the Department of English of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Since 2001 she has worked as at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb.

She holds the compulsory courses English for Law, English for Social Work, English for Public Administration, English for Tax Professionals and the elective courses English for Law and Comparative Legal Linguistics.

She has authored the textbooks English for Tax Administration Study (Social Sciences Polytechnics, Zagreb 2009), English for Tax Professionals (Narodne novine, Zagreb, 2018) and English for the Social Work Profession (University of Zagreb, 2020) and co-authored the textbooks English for Social Workers (University of Zagreb, 2005), English for Public Administration (Narodne novine, Zagreb, 2018) and English for the Legal Profession (Narodne novine, Zagreb, 2017 and 2019).

As a researcher, she participated in the scientific project Legal and linguistic aspects of multilingualism. She was actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the Tempus program Foreign Languages in the Field of Law and was a member of the work group for the organization of Teacher training workshops for lecturers of modern languages for special purposes within the program. Her research interests include LSP teaching, didactics and legal linguistics.

She is a member of the Croatian Association of English Teachers, Association of LSP Teachers at Higher Education Institutions, Global Association of English Studies (GAES) and International Language and Law Association (ILLA).

She has published numerous literary and professional translations and has presented at numerous domestic and international scientific conferences.
