Hrvoje Markovinović is a law graduate, a master of law and he has also gained a doctorate in law (2005) from the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. He passed the bar exam and spent a year at the TMC Asser Instituut in The Hague. Since 1997 he has been employed as an assistant, then assistant professor, since 2012 as an associate professor and since 2018 as a full professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. He teaches commercial and company law within integrated legal studies, specialist studies and doctoral studies. From 2007 to 2009 he was a vice dean of the Faculty of Law in Zagreb. He is a researcher on the project Harmonisation of the Croatian Company Law with European Law. He has published numerous articles and monographs in the field of commercial and company law. He represents the Republic of Croatia in the working groups of UNCITRAL and is involved in the activities of the International Chamber of Commerce.
