Assistant Nikša Vojvoda was born in 1998 in Čakovec, where he finished primary and high school. In addition to a regular grammar school, he graduated from the music high school in Varaždin (major subject: piano). In June 2021, he graduated cum laude from the Zagreb University Faculty of Law. During his studies he won the essay writing competition of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals. As a consequence, he was awarded a fellowship and stayed in The Hague at the Mechanism. After having completed his studies, he first worked at a law office, and subsequently as an accredited parliamentary assistant at the European Parliament. Since January 2022, he has been employed as an assistant in the status of a PhD student on the installation research project of the Croatian Science Foundation: “Croatian misdemeanour law in the European context – challenges and perspectives”, led by Associate Professor Marin Bonačić, at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. From June 2022, he has been enrolled in the Postgraduate doctoral study of Legal Science. He is writing his doctoral dissertation on procedural guarantees in quasi-criminal proceedings under the mentorship of Professor Bonačić. He has completed a research stay at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security, and Law in Freiburg. He has mentored students of the Faculty of Law at the XVI and XVII Regional moot court competition in human rights. He is an academic mentor at the Law Clinic. He has presented papers at several scientific conferences.
