Cognitive Skills:

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

 

Knowledge and understanding

 

- understand basic economic concepts,

- critically evaluate and recognise causes of economic successfulness and lack of success

- understand the role of the state in modern economy and the impoirtance of economic process within society

- recognise differences in economic systems

-. apply knowledge about economic systems to the current situation in the Republic of Croatia

- apply basic methods of economic analysis

 

Analysis

- analyse factors of successful and unsuccessful economic development

- recognise economic systems and parts of economic process and their connection

- establish a conceptual connection between economy and other segments of society in an ideological, cultural and political context

- apply research methods for certain economic phenomenon

- detect causes of economic success and lack of success

- analyse connectiin and determination of the operation of public and private sectors

 

Evaluation

- understand economic situation in Croatia; micro and macro economic level, private v. public sector and the role of economy in modern society

- assess economic success of other EU member states on the basis of learned theoretical approaches

 

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- publicly present acquired learning outcomes

- express themselves in a clear, well structured text argumenting their standpoints;

- develop communication skills

- participate in team work.

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

- Classes in Basic Economics are conducted as a continuous and proactive learning process in which the emphasis is placed on interaction.

- In that manner a constant two-way communicatiuon is ensured, which stimulated students' engagement and permanent acquisition of learning outcomes.

- Apart from regular consultations with Chair members, student assistants are also available to students in all classes and seminars

- Modern audio-visual contents are used in class.

- Several times per semester guest lecturers are invited (renowned representatuves of academic, business, trade union community, or representatives of governmental and other institutions) in order to transfer current and practical knowledge to students and motivate their critical evaluation of events and active mastering of learning materials.

 

Obligatory written examination and optional oral examination.

Written examination

Written examination consists of 5 questions of an essay type.
