Law Clinic of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb in cooperation with Iuss Buss clinic of the Law faculty in Oslo and the Norwegian embassy in Zagreb invite you to a lecture 'LEGAL REFORM WORK IN STUDENT CLINICS' Challenges and controversies from the Juss-Buss experience by Prof. Dr. Jon T. Johnsen of the Faculty of Law, Oslo University on Wednesday, 6 June 2012. at the Faculty Hall (TMT 14/II floor) at 10.00-12.00 o'clock. Lecture will be held in English language.
About the topic: The legal service from student clinics – especially to poor and deprived groups – often show that existing law has significant limitations in solving the clients’ problems. Such experiences bring up issues about legal reform and the students might also become motivated to forward them from their experiences with client problems. Such legal reform work might be perceived as more “political” than helping individual clients and therefore more controversial. The attitude toward legal reform work therefore varies between clinics. I will discuss pros and cons of doing legal reform work, its challenges for the clinic and its participants and how it might be
organized. I also comment on its implications for supporting institutions, especially the law faculties, and also lawyers’ associations, ministries and donors.
